Mary Queen of Heaven Canvas – Crowned Madonna and Child Under the Stars

Description

✨ Mary Queen of Heaven

Mary stands against a sky of lapis blue scattered with gold stars, crowned and veiled, and holds the Christ Child on her arm. He raises two fingers in blessing; she looks straight out at you, calm and grave, as a queen looks at the people who have been entrusted to her. Her crown is gold, set with rubies and sapphires and topped with fleurs-de-lis, the halo behind it is beaten gold, and the Child’s own halo carries the red cross of the Passion. It is the image of the first words of the Hail Holy Queen, the Queen of Heaven who is also the Mother of mercy, made for the wall where a family prays.

✨ Why Choose This Sacred Artwork?

The picture is built on three colours and almost nothing else: the deep blue of the mantle and of the night sky, the red of the gown, and gold, for the crown, the two halos, the stars and the embroidered borders of the mantle. That restraint is what lets it hold a room. Mary stands almost frontal, holding the Child on her arm, and she does not look at him but at you, so that the eye goes from her face to his raised hand and back. Painted in the academic manner of the nineteenth century French masters, with their soft modelling and luminous skin, it keeps the dignity of an icon and the warmth of a portrait.

📖 Inspiration & Story

Christians have called Mary Queen since the first centuries: the Greek Fathers named her Despoina, the Lady, and the Latin Church greets her as Queen of Heaven in the Easter anthem Regina Caeli and as Mother of mercy in the Salve Regina sung at nightfall. The title comes from her Son. Because Christ is King, his mother is Queen, as Bathsheba sat at the right hand of her son Solomon in the court of Israel (1 Kings 2:19), and the Book of Revelation shows a woman clothed with the sun and crowned with twelve stars. In 1954 Pope Pius XII gave the title a feast of its own in the encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam; the Queenship of Mary is kept today on August 22, a week after the Assumption. This original painting was made for jesuschrist.pictures in the academic manner, first as the medallion of our Hail Holy Queen prayer card, and then as a canvas of its own, so that the Queen of the prayer can watch over your home.
